Note if you remove the sticker and it appears to be clean, there is still a possibility of a fine scratch that has not caused any platter dust for the sticker to pick up, but most importantly if it is clean do not remove the top of the drive on your desk and if you do, use a can of compressed air to keep the platters clean before putting the top back on.
Posted by ascd at 7:03 am. The reason that hole says not to cover it, is that it’s used to allow a small amount of air into and out of that hole for atmospheric balance. On many hard drives, there’s a text warning to “not cover this hole”, sometimes adding that doing so will void the warranty.what is the purpose of this hole and why would covering it cause damage or increase the likelihood of drive failure?

Posted by ascd at 7:03 am. It seems like closing a disk up in a box goes directly against this warning. The hole is there for air pressure equalization as the drive heats and cools.
